Have you ever had your vitals taken by a doctor to ensure everything is working as it should? Vitality is defined as the state of being strong and active—full of energy. Jesus had vitality: spiritual fullness, a powerful presence, and abundant life. Without it, I’m not sure how He could have performed so many miracles, taught large crowds, healed the sick, discipled the twelve, and still maintained such healthy boundaries throughout His life.
Although we see Jesus rest, we never hear of Him being too tired to carry out His mission. As someone deeply invested in discipleship of women and Bible-based coaching, this challenges me. When I think of vitality, my mind often goes first to physical exercise. But if we are not exercising our minds and spirits as well, we slowly lose strength and energy over time.
If we are not actively participating with God in the renewal of our minds and the transformation of our hearts, we risk living a dim and distracted existence. Being washed daily by the Word of God gives us insight and wisdom that keep us sharp for the spiritual battle. This is foundational in Christ-centered living and Spirit-led coaching.
When we apply what the Holy Spirit teaches us, we learn to walk by the Spirit rather than by the flesh. This is how we live out our purpose and calling—becoming disciples who make disciples, living as modern-day missionaries right where God has placed us. Without our participation—without intentionally exercising our mind, body, and spirit—we lose vitality. And when we lack vitality on the inside, we are far less equipped to withstand opposition on the outside.
Scripture shows us several ways Jesus maintained His vitality, offering a model for Christian coaching and Kingdom Women seeking to follow His way.
PRAYER
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”
—Mark 1:35
REST
“Then Jesus said, ‘Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest a while.’”
—Mark 6:31
ABIDING
“Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”
—John 5:19
THE WORD
“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.”
—John 17:17
These practices form the foundation of biblical discipleship and Kingdom living—prayer, rest, abiding in Christ, and daily immersion in the Word.
